Wild resistance

SYNOPSIS

For centuries, humans have mistreated nature and all living things, even though they are part of it. In the Vercors, a new generation of activists is reclaiming the wilderness through the radical lens of rewilding. By stepping away from traditional, heavy-handed conservation, these pioneers are buying up vast plots of land to simply let ecosystem dynamics heal themselves. They closely monitor the return of ancient predators, the regrowth of native flora, and the spontaneous restoration of biodiversity. Through their relentless efforts, this French plateau is slowly transforming into a living laboratory for a planet in desperate need of balance.

By creating strictly protected sanctuaries, they are putting into practice a philosophy of free evolution, where human intervention ceases and nature regains its full sovereignty. In these pockets of resilience, flora and fauna thrive without constraint: rivers return to their natural courses, endangered species make a comeback, and the cycle of life and death is left intact to restore functional ecosystems. This bold approach demonstrates that “doing nothing” is a powerful act of activism; by stepping back, these activists allow the land to naturally combat climate change and purify resources, proving that true protection lies in letting nature return to the wild.
