Tiny Hearts, Big Fights

SYNOPSIS:

This immersive documentary takes us inside the neonatal unit at Robert Debré Hospital, one of the largest paediatric hospitals in France. Director Éric Guéret offers an unfiltered look at the realities of neonatal care. Here, medical teams care for extremely premature babies as well as full-term newborns with severe medical conditions.

Over six months, filmmaker Éric Guéret immerses himself in this world, telling the stories of these children, their families and the dedicated teams fighting to save them. His unflinching approach to this sensitive subject offers a rare insight into the realities of neonatal medicine, confronting even its most difficult and taboo questions. Inside this high-pressure ward, every breath is a victory and every decision carries immense weight. The camera captures both the extraordinary achievements of modern medicine and the profound exhaustion of healthcare professionals pushed to their limits. Through these intimate portraits, the film lays bare a system in which human dedication can no longer fully compensate for a severe shortage of resources and beds.

Ultimately, it forces us to confront what we stand to lose as a society when our most vital safety nets begin to unravel. Both a tribute to public hospitals and a warning about the consequences of their decline.
